Above are photos from the King William Fair Parade. Yes, that is a chihuahua wearing a sombrero. Fiesta San Antonio started in 1891 when a group of women gathered for a parade and threw flowers at each other to commemorate the Battle of the Alamo and San Jacinto. This was the first "Battle of Flowers" parade. Above are pictures of this years Battle of Flowers, which is a holiday for most San Antonians. The dresses above belong to duchesses of Fiesta. Each dress weighs approximately 70 lbs, and is rumored to cost anywhere from 10 thousand dollars to 80 thousand dollars. This is not including the cost of the jewelry, parties and additional dresses for those parties.
The gloves and hats above were made by Shan Shan, a very talented Japanese blogger/textile designer. Her style varies, but she usually wears tulle peeping out from under her skirts to give them some flair. Purchase her berets on Etsy.

Last night I visited La Condesa (above) and Malverde (below) on Second street in Austin. Amy and I first stumbled upon them while wandering in between two shows during South by Southwest. Malverde had attracted a line around the block for a party they were hosting. Both have similar urban-chic architecture and interior design, including lofty ceilings extended by the low-profile seating. The interior ceiling extends over the porch sections, divided only by full-length glass sliding doors, merging the two sections. La Condesa boasts an adventurous contemporary Mexican menu, which features local and seasonal items. While we were lounging upstairs, a waiter delivered a suckling pig covered in sparklers downstairs. We only ordered a delicious strawberry rhubarb tart with sour cream ice cream because the menu is pricey. Despite the price, I can't wait to return and try the chevre cheese cake!
